“The Present” was written by Spencer Johnson and published in 2003. Surprisingly, I was just aware of this book recently. At the first time to see this book, I was attracted by its cover with some ribbons and its name: The Present. The title of this novel means not only that the author wanted to give a new idea as a gift for all of us but also “now”. The subtitle “the gift that makes you happy and successful at work and in life” indeed attracted me and eager to know how to do that or what will be happened as I get the present. The author indicated that everyone has their own unique present when they were born, if you want to gain the present, you need to look for it by yourself. However, some one may not find the present during their lifetime. Beyond expectation, this book inspires me and departs me from these hard days.
Mr. Jonhson took the communication between a little boy and an elder person for example, leads readers to follow and develop his concept. At first, the boy grew up and took a long time to find out his present: the present, accidentally. He realized that he should treasure what he has now, not the past or the future. In addition, he has to concentrate on everything happened now in bright field. Then, he changed his attitude and obeyed the present’s idea. Later, he found that he cannot make progress anymore. He returned to met the elder person and acquire the other two important main point of the present. The first one is that discard the past, who ever you are, whatever you’ve done both need to be abandoned the moment; the other concept is that you should connect with the present and the future. Because your future depends on what you’ve done now, making good planning for your future and doing more efforts on it will make you feel excited and more enthusiastic with everything around you. Eventually, the young boy realized and discovered his present, became more successful and enjoy of his life. Although the elder person died the end of this story, the young boy turns to another intelligent elder person and share the present idea to other young children. The present will be given by generations.
After reading this book, I was affected by the simple idea. During these busy days, I seem to lose something I were aware of and what I am. I become more treasure what I have and try to forget what I’ve done before, connect with the present and the future. The most important thing is that I look everything in a brighter site that really makes me happier that several weeks ago. Maybe it’s another beneficial way to improve my EQ. Although I still cannot do as well as I think and not successful as other people do, I will keep myself not to forget the present I’ve found but use it well. A good opportunity for me reading this book at this time, it supports me to hold on every situation now. I have recommended many friends reading this book if they still have little known about this book. The present is not only the present, the present can be everything and you should find the worth of the present.
